Wasteland Developer inXile Unveils Clockwork Revolution

Must read

At today's Xbox Games Showcase, Wasteland developer inXile took to the stage to unveil its next project: Clockwork Revolution.

Clockwork Revolution Xbox Games Showcase 2023 Trailer

Clockwork Revolution is a first-person action adventure game with an overwhelmingly steampunk aesthetic, making it rather reminscent of Bioshock. But steampunk isn't the only vibe in the room – there's also a plot involving time travel, where your goal is to change something that happened in the past to control events in the future.

An Xbox Wire post offered more details on the game, which centers around the Victorian city of Avalon, which is ruled over by Lady Ironwood. Ironwood is using a time travel device to change key events in the city's history to hold tight to her rule while keeping the working class down. Your goal is to use your own device, the Chronometer, to change the past and then return to the present to see how that impacts things.

Clockwork Revolution is an action RPG headed up by Chad Moore as game director and Jason Anderson as principal designer, both of whom helped create another steampunk RPG: Arcanum, so it's likely we'll see Arcanum's influence on this game. Most recently, inXile released Wasteland 3, which we said had "impressive freedom of choice, dark and rough humor, and satisfying combat" that made it "one of the more memorable entries in the genre to date."
