Stranger Things Is Getting an Animated Series

Must read

The Stranger Things universe is getting a new entry. Netflix has announced a new animated series set within the Duffer Brothers' world.

The streamer shared very little information about the upcoming animated series, besides that it is in development at Flying Bark Productions with executive producer Eric Robles. Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer will serve as executive producers through Upside Down Pictures, with contributions from Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen through 21 Laps.

The Duffer Brothers released a statement alongside the announcement, saying the animated series is an homage to Saturday morning cartoons.

"We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling," the statement reads. "We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…”

Stranger Things is coming to an end with Season 5, which is set to be a thematic "culmination" of what's come before. We already know the premiere of the final season is titled, "Chapter One: The Crawl". Other than that, the Duffer Brothers have revealed that Season 5 will be shorter than Season 4, and it may have a "Return of the King-Ish" ending.

The main series is ending soon, but there's plenty more Stranger Things in the works. Beyond today's animated series announcement, the Duffer Brothers have revealed they want to hand a Stranger Things spinoff to another creator. Plus, Stranger Things is getting a stage play in London later this year.
