First Look at Kingsman Director's New Spy Movie Starring Henry Cavill

Must read

Apple TV+ just released its first look at Argylle – the upcoming Spy thriller from Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn which stars none other than Henry Cavill.

The image depicts Cavill as Argylle, suited and booted, dancing closely with Dua Lipa, who makes her acting debut in the upcoming spy caper.

Although little is known about Dua Lipa’s role so far, it looks as though the pair will be getting up close and personal. But quite who Dua Lipa will be playing remains a bit of a mystery.

Argylle is based on the novel of the same name by Elly Conway, which tells the story of the world’s greatest spy. No, not that one.

The film puts Argylle in a bit of an awkward situation. Suffering from amnesia, he is tricked into believing he is a best-selling spy novelist. However, once his memories and lethal spycraft skills come back to him, he goes down a path of revenge against the shadowy organization he used to work for, known only as the Division.

Meanwhile, Cavill’s new look for Argylle is dividing his fans:

At least it’s not a mustache this time.

I can already imagine #Argylle press tour with tons of questions about his hair, just like they did in the Mission Impossible press tour when everybody ask him about his mustache.😭 pic.twitter.com/tquxWOflJG

It’s thought that Vaughn is eyeing this new project as the start of a new franchise akin to Kingsman and its subsequent follow-ups such as The King's Man. Whether or not that pans out remains to be seen.

“I needed someone who was born to play Bond — which Henry is — and then nick him before Bond did,” Vaughn told The Hollywood Reporter. “He plays a larger-than-life action hero with a wink. It's very different from Kingsman.”

Henry Cavill stars alongside Dua Lipa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ariana DeBose, Samuel L. Jackson, John Cena, Catherine O’Hara, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, and Rob Delaney.

Argylle is directed by Matthew Vaughn with a script from Jason Fuchs, based on a novel by Elly Conway. Claudia Schiffer is on board to executive produce along with Adam Fishback, Zygi Kamas, and Carlos Perez. Jason Fuchs will produce the movie, joined by Adam Bohling, Toby Hefferman, Iain Mackenzie, and David Reid.

Argylle will debut in cinemas sometime later this year.
