Blue Beetle Movie and Multiple James Gunn Projects are Reportedly Safe After Batgirl Cancellation

Must read

After Batgirl’s cancellation, the fate of many DC films and series have been left up in the air. Thankfully, several projects are reportedly safe, according to The Hollywood Reporter. These projects include the Blue Beetle live-action movie and several projects from James Gunn, including Peacemaker starring John Cena.

DC's Blue Beetle: Who's Who in the Cast?

Blue Beetle will star Xolo Maridueña. Maridueña will be DC’s first Latino superhero to head a movie. It is on track for its August 2023 release date. The film, like the now canceled Batgirl, was initially going to be an HBO Max release, but it was later slated for theaters.

Several other projects are also safe. These include the sequel to Joker, which, considering the first film’s success, seems like a no-brainer. The sequel will also star Lady Gaga.

The Flash starring Ezra Miller is also moving forward and has been “testing well.” Miller has been in the news lately for their legal trouble. Most recently, they’ve been charged with felony burglary.

Blue Beetle, based on the character from the DC comics, follows Jaime Reyes as he finds a scarab that binds to his spine and gives him the signature blue armor. We’ve already gotten a look at concept art for the live-action movie suit last year. Blue Beetle will be directed by Angel Manuel Soto.

While Blue Beetle and Peacemaker are safe following Batgirl’s cancellation, several other films and series have not been as lucky. For a full list on the status of all things DC, be sure to check out our guide.
